General standards

  • Throughout the Board’s territory, anyone wishing to have an outdoor fire must first obtain a burn permit. The applicant must be over eighteen (18) years of age.
  • The maximum size of an open-air fire is 1 meter by 1 meter.
    Open-air fires must be located at least 3 meters from any building or property line.
    No fire may be made within the shoreline. This includes the beach.
  • Submit your application at least three (3) business days before the planned date of your fire. Your permit will be issued for a period determined by the Fire Board.
OPEN-AIR FIRES ARE PROHIBITED when the SOPFEU fire risk index is very high or extreme
  • The fire must be under the constant supervision of the permit holder or a person designated by them. This person must be of legal age. The supervisor is responsible for the fire and must be prepared to take the necessary and appropriate measures to keep it under control and extinguish it.
  • Have on hand, at the location where the fire is to be lit, the required equipment to fight a fire caused by that fire, such as garden hoses, fire extinguishers, or any other appropriate equipment.
It is prohibited to use as fuel or to burn:
  • Waste;
  • Construction materials;
  • Movable property;
  • Treated wood;
  • Tires or other rubber-based materials;
  • Hazardous or polluting products;
  • Any other product whose combustion is prohibited by applicable laws and regulations.

If the fire is in a fire pit equipped with a metal mesh around the firebox and a chimney with a compliant spark arrestor, it is not necessary to apply for a burn permit.
